The Pups: Lhasa Apso

Jaeden (Jae), at one time, was my only companion and I got him just as he turned 6 weeks on Labor Day of 2004. I felt bad leaving him alone all day, so I searched for a play mate for him. I found Jordan a few months later and had her shipped from South Dakota in December of 2004. The two are only about 3 months apart and have been the best of friends since their first meeting.

Recently, Jae has been bombarded by my family dynamics changing drastically. Kenny and Snoop (2 year old American Bulldog) moved into our Condo in April of 2006. Shortly after that we had Kennedy…so Jae has probably been under a lot of stress with adjusting to the changes of his daily activities.

A few weeks ago, Jae bit Kenny pretty badly after being provoked. At that time Kenny was determined Jae had sealed his fate of no longer being a part of the family. I talked Kenny down after a few days and said Jae was provoked and scared. Yesterday, however, Jae did seal his fate by growling and protecting a comb as if it were food when Kennedy crawled over to him and reached for the comb. Kenny and I both yelled at Jae and he appeared to be so apologetic…however…Kennedy is an infant and did nothing to provoke that behavior…and thus the creation of this e-mail explaining why Jae needs a new home.

I’m very attached to my dogs as most of you know and so this reality is a very hard pill to swallow. Although I would love to keep Jae, despite the aggressiveness he has shown lately, I must keep in mind my parental responsibilities.

…so that leads me to my next statement…Jae and Jordan (female Lhasa) are a pair…and if I can find someone that would be so willing to take them both, I think I would choose that option, just for the sake of them not losing their playmate. I could be selfish and only let Jae go; however, if I were them, I’d probably want to stay together.

Jae has shown that he doesn’t deal well with larger dogs, aggressive men, and small children. So a home that has persons over the age of 10 and without dogs already would be most ideal in my opinion.

I’ve attached a few pictures of them both; two pictures of them together as they usually are with long hair and one with short hair as they are now. It will take about 4 months for them to get their long coats to grow back out. …Jordan is the one that looks like a girl (seriously).

Jana, I'm so sorry! I remember when you got them. I know this is a hard decision for you to make. I will keep my ears open for a home for them. :-)
